Computer
policy
The
C.A.P. (Community Access Program) computers are available for the
use
of the general public. The following rules are designed to maximize
that
access while ensuring that the sensibilities and rights of all users
are
defended. All users will sign the form to indicate agreement with
this policy.
Access to
C.A.P. computers is free. All users will sign in prior to using
a C.A.P. computer and sign out when finished.
All users
under 18 years of age must have the policy agreement signed by
a parent or guardian.
C.A.P. computers
will not be used for illegal or offensive activities.
This includes the writing, reading or downloading of hate literature,
pornography, racist comments, offensive language and harassing
material.
Downloads
from the computer or from the Internet must be made to your own
diskette(s) and not to the hard drive. Diskettes are also available
from the librarian for $2.00. Printing of documents is available
at $0.25 per page, no exceptions.
If there
are people waiting to use the computers, sessions will be
limited to one hour per user. Priority access will be given to
those who
have reserved a specific time slot. A five-minute grace period
will be given.
The accessing
of pornographic, racist or violent sites will not be tolerated.
An access ban will be imposed on violators.
The Champlain
Public Library and the Champlain Municipal Council are not responsible
for any charges incurred by use of the Internet. We will not be
held responsible for the security and confidentiality of any
transaction, including e-commerce.
Users are
advised that sending credit card numbers, actual names and addresses
over the Internet can be dangerous. Caution is advised.
Users are
not to install or run any software on C.A.P. computers,
including Internet downloads which have not been installed by
the library staff.
Users are
not to invade the privacy of other users by any means,
including the transmission or use of programs designed to infiltrate
or take over other computers, hacking or harassment.
In the
event of malicious damage, costs will be assessed and the
offending user held accountable for the total cost of these repairs
